Chapter 12 ~ Page 166

Crossing the California, Oregon border on the PCTWe also experienced a real feeling of accomplishment by passing by a small yellow sign the next morning that simply read "California State Line." One thousand, six hundred, and thirty-eight miles from the customs house at Tecate we had come to an end, a beginning, and a beginning of the end.

That is about as good as I can put it into words. I guess BJ came the closest to summing up what we felt. Someone asked him at Copco if he believed we really would make it all the way.
"Will do," he answered, as if carrying the weight of 100 years of experience, "as long as Canada is still there."
