So it wasn't until we rode out of camp the next morning that the quaintness of Sierra City and the Yuba Gap really impressed us. This was the first of the mother lode gold camps that we had visited. False front stores, a brick bank, express office, all lent themselves to singing this time, instead of shouting: Talk about Suzanne, and the men that panned for gold, we've shook hands with 'em listened to the stories they told Oh we're a ten horse power, four hoof drive, non-polluting time machine. The 1850's lay ahead. As did Bedbug Butte, Nellie's Nipple, Blue Nose Mountain, No Ear Bar, Little Ladies Creek, and the ghost town of Poker Flat. ![]() |
